Concerning installation these two products are a bit different. Arctic Silver has very extensive installation instructions on their site- I highly recommend you read these before installing any CPU. All we did for the installation AS5 was to apply a small but consistently sized amount on the center of the processor. Over the center, or core, of the processor is not only where most of the heat originates and is transferred but by doing it this way you can simply push the heatsink straight down on the CPU and the compound will spread out evenly over the entire surface.

Arctic Silver recommends to install AS5 this way but for Ceramique you should apply a bit to the center of the CPU then spread it out evenly over the entire surface of the processor before the installation of the heatsink.
